Tomorrow, October 3, Lagos state will host the Africa Blue Economy Summit at Azuri Towers, Eko Atlantic City. The landmark event is expected to position Lagos and Nigeria as leaders in the continent's emerging blue economy, opening new frontiers for trade, investment, and SME participation.
Themed "Harnessing Africa's Blue Natural Capital for Sustainable Growth," the summit will gather political leaders, global investors, entrepreneurs, scientists, and youth. Confirmed speakers include Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Afreximbank President Prof. Benedict Oramah, football legend Didier Drogba, and E1 Series Co-Founder Rodi Basso. Their sessions will highlight the opportunities in sustainable fisheries, ocean-based innovation, coastal protection, and renewable marine industries.
According to Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Mr Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the summit will deliver actionable pathways to transform Africa's ocean and freshwater resources into engines for growth. He noted that Lagos aims to be the continental hub for innovation, investment, and collaboration in the blue economy.
SMEs are expected to play a central role in this transformation, particularly in sectors such as aquaculture, logistics, ocean waste-to-value innovation, and tourism. By linking small businesses with investors and policymakers, the summit will create opportunities for entrepreneurs to tap into Africa's vast marine and coastal resources.
The event also features a Thought Leadership Forum that will convene global experts to co-develop strategies for scaling the blue economy. With its focus on innovation, climate adaptation, and job creation, the summit signals a new chapter for SMEs across Africa to engage in marine-driven industries that support sustainable development.
